PLUTOPIA

An economic simulation by CAC · played in the browser

PLUTOPIA is a board-style economic game that runs in the browser: a ring of 60 fields, 7 roles and 4 passports. Play over the network on 2–8 seats, or on a single device passed around the table. Free, no install, no sign-up, in Russian, English and Azerbaijani.

How to play

  1. Take a seat and choose a role and a passport. The passport sets your deal tax, starting capital, dividends and how you get out of Jail; the role decides where your money comes from and what you are allowed to do at all.
  2. On your turn, roll the die and resolve the field you land on: buy a vacant establishment (there are 48), pay rent to its owner, or land on the Bank, Audit, Casino, Metro, Jail, Post Office or University.
  3. Between moves, run your own business: take a loan at up to 30%, add security and a rating to a property so its rent grows, claim a network monopoly, take a network public, buy a second passport.
  4. A turn allows 180 seconds plus 15 seconds of grace. If a seat goes silent the computer plays it — and the seat can be taken back mid-game, with its cash, properties and debts as they are.

How to win

Be the first to bring your net worth to 3×X — cash plus properties and shares minus debts. With 8 players the nominal X is $1400, so the target is $4200. The other route is to be the last one standing once everyone else is ruined. The Banker wins differently: when their debtor goes bankrupt owing one X or more.

Roles

Eternal Student — lives on a stipend and plays the exchange. Monopolist — assembles a network in one industry and dictates the rent. Broker — earns on the quotes. Raider — seizes properties and robs the bank, and pays no tax. Sheriff — the only one at the table, returns seized property to victims for a fee. Banker — lives on loan interest and wins when a debtor goes bankrupt. Entrepreneur — builds and resells while understating tax as audit exposure piles up.

Passports

The Green Zone is wealthy but its passport is expensive and the tax is high. Blue is even and cheap. Red is peaceful: no Raider and no Sheriff, with a high start. Yellow is a tax haven with a poor start and immunity from raids. A second passport is bought and comes into force on a pass of the University — after that the taxes of both zones add up.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. The game opens from a link in a phone or desktop browser; there is no install and no sign-up. Your seat is bound to the device, so if the connection drops you return to the same game.

How many players do I need?

The game is built for 4–8 players and the lobby seats up to 8. You can start short-handed, even with two: an empty seat is played by the computer until a person takes it. On one device players take turns and pass the phone around.

Which languages does the game speak?

Russian, English and Azerbaijani. The language follows your browser and can be switched on any screen — in the lobby, in the rules, in the tutorial and in the middle of a match; the choice is remembered on the device.

Is it free?

Yes, the game is free and contains no purchases.

Can I learn to play on my own?

Yes. The tutorial walks you through eight lessons on a live game: the roll, buying an establishment, rent in both directions, income at the Bank, adding security to a property, and the net-worth goal.
